Sea, Shells and SandMost of my life as a child was spent at the ocean with my wonderful cousins and we fished and played and got sunburned so bad that we looked like lobsters. But it was wonderful. The summer days were long and the wind off the desert that blew onto the shore was warm and dry. This is so different from the days living on the eastern shore of the United States. I was fishing off the shore as long as I remember. I have a picture of myself as a kid of about 5 with a great big fishing pole my father baited with clams and other mussels we found on old pilings. The days were heaven. Not a care in the world. What I would give to be back there for just this one night. This spectacular night when the ocean came alive with green and light blue colors. It was better than the forth of July. It was and still will be one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. It was pitch black on the shore near Oceanside and the Algae in the salt water must have been thick because every time a wave crashed the entire breaker lit up with green fire. If you went into the water and dragged your arm through the water it would leave a wake of green light. This phenomenon is called bioluminescence. So beautiful was that night. I’ll never forget it.
